Looking old might be excusable if S60 actually worked very well, but instead it feels like among the most complex and obtuse operating systems out there. Want to change how long it takes to power of the screen when idle? Go to menu, control panel, settings, general, personalization, display. Six menu levels to reach one very basic setting. There’s really just no excuse for a phone to work this way in 2010.

The jumble of Nokia buttons between screen and keyboard can also get confusing. You have hard call and end-call keys on the bottom row, home, calendar, contacts and e-mail shortcuts above, then soft right and left selection keys above that correspond to on-screen prompts. This must have been what Steve Jobs  was fed up with when he designed the iPhone. Throw in the Navi Key button in the middle, and you’re looking at an awfully intimidating interface until you get it all nailed down. In its defense, those four shortcut buttons can be reprogrammed to open anything with both a short and long touch, which makes access to commonly used features lightning fast if you care to program and memorize them all.

And about that Navi Key: the optical trackpad doesn’t work nearly as well as we had hoped. Because the edges of the directional pad form a shallow box around it, you can only make very short gestures on it before the ridges around the edges interrupt your swipe. Even with sensitivity cranked to max, we found it hard to navigate more than one tile in any direction on the application menu, without grossly exaggerated (and imprecise) swipes. This basically negated its entire purpose, and after using the directional buttons long enough, we opted to simply turn Navi Key off.

The voice command button on the side promises to end these navigation woes by simply saying what you need to access, like “contacts.” Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple. Nearly all of the commands we tried were met with “no results found,” leaving us to mainly give up on this lame feature.

Say what you will about the bulge that goes with Nokia’s 5-megapixel shooter, but it produces nice pictures… when it focuses properly. We found that most snaps from camera had outstanding clarity and improved color accuracy from the E71, but the autofocus function seemed quite flaky, especially when dealing with close-up subjects. We wish Nokia would release a firmware update to fix the somewhat hit or miss quality to the camera, which would make it a real winner.

Why, oh why, can’t Nokia get over S60? The E72 is like a Porsche 911 Turbo with the interior of a 1995 Chevy Lumina. Even though everything “works,” we just have a hard time getting over the crummy cloth seats, hard plastic shifter and manual windows while we’re driving it.

Nokia has taken a more aesthetic approach when designing the 7610. From one look, the vivid casing colors and stylish keypad layout provide a unique and unforgettable impression. The Nokia 7610 comes in two colors: Silver Grey, and Black / Red, however additional colors can be purchased through Nokia's X-Press cover accessories.

The front of the 7610 features a 65K color 176 x 208 px TFT screen. The LCD doubles as a viewfinder when camera mode is enabled. A cascading keypad layout is located below. Users with bad flashbacks of the 3650's rotary keypad can be at ease. Unlike the former, the 7610's artistically designed layout is as functional as it is fashionable, with a 5-way directional keypad to navigate the Symbian OS menu as well.

The back of the Nokia 7610 is colorfully designed with intricate patterns and shapes. It is also where the camera lens lies. Featuring a 1 megapixel built-in camera, the Nokia 7610 has the ability to capture images at up to 1152 x 852 px. Unfortunately the lens is unprotected, so scratches will occur if not careful.

Nokia 7610 KeypadUnderneath the back cover where the battery lies, contains the expansion slot for RS-MMC (Reduced Size MultiMediaCard) cards. Getting to the card is quite a chore; fortunately it doesn't need to be accessed frequently.

On the bottom is the outlet for charging the phone, and a system connector, Pop-Port. Pop-Port is a Nokia designed outlet that automatically identifies accessories attached to the phone. Normally, it also offers stereo sound with the use of headphones. However, as will be discussed later, the 7610 only outputs mono. Lastly, it's also where you can charge your accessories with a single USB cable without the use of separate power sources. Pop-Port transmits up to 230 kbps.

The Vostro 1088 has a comparatively better performance to price ratio than any other laptops present at that particular price range. The Speed, Performance and the Affordable Price, along with the latest features are supposed to be a huge plus-point for the Dell Vostro 1088 laptop.

The new Vostro 3000 series features an updated design and performance improvements.  While the Vostro 3300 is marketed under the Dell Business laptop brand, it can serve very well as a student laptop or home laptop since the price is very competitive and has the performance and features desirable to anyone looking for a portable computer to get work done. Dell's Vostro 3300 inherits its svelte design and thin esthetic from the original Dell Adamo design, though the 3300 isn't quite as skinny or light as the Adamo. It's a good choice for users who are frequently on-the-go or want to have a laptop that's easy to bring to and from the office without too much fuss.

The Dell Vostro 3300's design is very business-like with a matte finish that doesn't easily show dirt or fingerprints and comes only one color, silver. We really like this because glossy screens tend to reflect indoor lighting as well as outdoor sunlight, while matte screens cut that down dramatically. Network connectivity was trouble-free in our network environment, which is built around a Netgear WNDR 3700 wireless router. The Vostro also comes equipped with a now-familiar gigabit ethernet port. Our test unit lacked wireless broadband capability, but Dell does offer a wireless 3G card as an option.

Frankly speaking, the Core i3 processor and integrated graphics will be enough for many mobile small business users or students that are just looking to use productivity applications such as Microsoft Office and using the web to get work done.  If you’re into gaming, multimedia production and design or tons of multi-tasking then you can certainly benefit from a more powerful configuration.  Using the Core i3 and just 2GB of RAM I was satisfied with the performance of the Vostro 3300 for everyday tasks.  In addition, HD Video playback using online sites such as Hulu.com or YouTube.com was smooth and flawless thanks to the processing power.  While the Core i3 isn’t close to being the most powerful new Intel processor, I think it offers plenty enough power for mainstream users.

Overall I come away being impressed with the Dell Vostro 3300 as it offers a lot of bang for the buck. It hits a solid combination of features in a sleek, compact package.
